Cetty Previtera

Cetty Previtera (Switzerland, 1976)

As a child, she moved with her family to Sicily, her parents’ homeland, where she soon rediscovered her roots. To this day she lives on the slopes of Mount Etna.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Catania and a Master’s Degree in Communication and Nonverbal Languages, she began working in the social work field. However, after several years he strongly felt the need to deepen his study of oil painting. He then began to attend the studios of some painters, and later met the masters Giuseppe Puglisi and Piero Zuccaro, who have always been linked to the Scicli Group.  With them he attended for several years, at the Abadir Academy of Fine Arts, the free course in Painting. This encounter turns out to be crucial for his training. Her studies and relationship with the teachers allow her to discover great painting, the history and works of the most famous artists. She discovers, above all, the consciousness and will to be an artist herself. During her years of study, in 2010, she is selected among the finalists of the National Arts Award in Naples. At the end of the same year she exhibited, together with other young emerging artists, at the Lo Magno Art Gallery in Modica in the group show L’Unicotratto, an exhibition strongly desired and curated by Piero Zuccaro.

In the following years she had the opportunity to exhibit in several Sicilian galleries, and in 2014, on the occasion of the exhibition of Jan Vermeer’s La ragazza con l’orecchino di perla at the Palazzo Fava in Bologna, she was invited by Marco Goldin to participate, with several of her works, in the Exhibition Attorno a Vermeer

In May 2017 she is invited by Antonio Sarnari for her first solo exhibition, Primavera, curated by Marco Goldin, at Quam in Scicli. This is followed shortly after by various group participations, a new solo exhibition at Carta Bianca fine arts in Catania entitled Dream Up curated by Francesco Rovella, and a group show at George Billis Gallery in New York in 2019. In 2021, again invited by Marco Goldin, she exhibited in the group show Attorno a Van Gogh, held at the Centro Culturale San Gaetano in Padua, as part of the major exhibition dedicated to Van Gogh, Van Gogh e I colori della vita. In 2022 he represented Quam gallery at the Bologna Fair with a “solo show,” Ritorno al bosco, curated by Antonio Sarnari. In 2023 a new solo show, at Quam gallery in Scicli, entitled Mi ricordo i fiori, confirms a path begun years earlier. The catalog is correlated with an ‘interview with Valentina Tebala for Small Zine.

Several artist residency experiences connote his path. Ritratto a mano with Jorge Peris in 2018 in Caramanico Terme, the Painting Symposium curated by Luigi Presicce in 2022 at the Fondazione Lac o Le Mon in San Cesario di Lecce, Landina curated by Lorenza Boisi in the Piedmont province of Verbano Cusio Ossola in 2023, and the recent Rammemorazioni curated by Francesco Piazza for the benefit of the Museo Naturalistico Minà Palumbo in Castelbuono (PA). In 2024-25, just concluded, the second solo exhibition, Just Bloom, at Carta Bianca Fine Arts in Catania, curated by Francesco Rovella, with a text by Gianna Panicola.
