Pierluigi Pusole (Turin, 1963)

He represents one of the major interpreters of what is called young Italian figuration, an expressive trend in the field of iconic painting that has emerged since the 1990s. His first exhibitions, however, date back to the 1980s, with solo shows at the Unione Culturale in Turin, Studio Corrado Levi in Milan, Galleria Guido Carbone in Turin and Studio Cristofori in Bologna, and the group shows Ordine e disordine, curated by Renato Barilli at Palazzo dell’Arengo in Rimini, Ucronia, Kunstverein Ludwigshafen am Rheim (DE) and Examples: new Italian art, curated by Corrado Levi, Riversides Studio London (UK). In the 1990s, repeated solo shows at Galleria Guido Carbone in Turin, Galleria Cannaviello in Milan, Galleria Lucien Bilinelli in Brussels, and Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea at La Sapienza University in Rome are worth mentioning, while among the group shows were his presence at the 1990 Venice Biennale in Aperto, curated by Renato Barilli; Avec, A. P.A.C. Nevers (FR); the Anni ’90 exhibition, curated by Renato Barilli, at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna in Bologna; participation in the FIAR International Prize at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan; Segni e disegni, at Analix Gallery in Geneva (CH); participation in Ultime Generazioni in the 12th Quadriennale in Rome; that in Carte italiane, curated by Gianni Romano, at the Italian Institute of Culture in Athens (EL); Immagini italiane, curated by Ludovico Pratesi, Medienmeile am Hafen in Dusseldorf and Cologne (DE); Arte italiana: la pittura iconica, MAMBO in Bologna; Transmissions, Espace des Arts Chalon sur Saone (FR). In the first decade of 2000 numerous solo exhibitions, in Turin (Galleria Alberto Peola, Galleria In Arco), Milan (Galleria Cannaviello), Verona (Galleria dello Scudo), Berlin (Galleria Michael Schultz). Noteworthy group shows include Futurama, curated by Bruno Corà, Raffaele Gavarro and Marco Meneguzzo, at the Pecci Museum in Prato; GAM builds its future, at G.A.M. in Turin; Arte italiana, curated by Lorand Hegyi, at the Gallery of Modern Art in Bratislava (CZ); Arte Italiana 1968-2007, at the Palazzo Reale in Milan; Experimenta, at the Farnesina Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome. The second decade of the 2000s lists solo exhibitions at the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in San Marino; at the Studio d’Arte Raffaelli in Trento and at Forte Strino in Vermiglio (TN); at Cannaviello Gallery in Milan; at the Fondazione 107 in Turin; Interno18 in Cremona. Group shows of the same period include Un’altra storia: arte italiana dagli anni ’80 agli anni ’00, at the Ex Chiesa di San Francesco in Como; the traveling exhibition Biennale Italia-Cina first at Palazzo Reale in Monza, then in Beijing, then at Mastio della Cittadella in Turin; the group show La guerra che verrà non è la prima at M. A.R.T. in Rovereto; Landscapes, curated by Guido Curto, at Villa Giulia in Verbania; Liberi tutti, curated by Cristiana Perrella and Luca Beatrice, at Museo Ettore Fico in Turin; Evidence.
